14 Week Appointment

I have a 14 week picture to post, but I need new batteries in my camera.  So, I will take this opportunity and write about my 14 week appointment.  The baby is actually the size of a lemon now! About 3 inches long and weighs a couple of ounces!  My appointment was on Monday and I saw my doctor's midwife.  She took my blood for the bloodwork and she said they will go over it at my next appointment.  When I stepped on the scale I was stunned!  I have gained 15 pounds already!  Neither my doctor or his midwife has said anything to me about it, which I appreciate!  Although at my very first appointment my doctor made the comment that I had lost weight, so I am thinking maybe they wanted me to gain a few pounds...atleast that's what I am telling myself!

I was really nervous when she took me into the exam room.  Just because last time when we were unable to hear the heartbeat.  I know if it were to happen again I would ask her to do an ultrasound, so that was always in the back of my mind.  Luckily we were able to hear the heartbeat within a minute of trying to find it. 150 bpm YAY!  I was holding back tears.  It is just the best sound to hear!  She said my growth looks right on and when she was feeling my belly (before she brought in the doppler) she said it felt like the baby was laying on my left side.  I told her I have felt a little hard spot on my left side and a couple weeks ago I had really bad round ligament stretching and it was also on my left side.  She said that is exactly where the baby is.  While we were listening to the heartbeat we could hear the baby moving around too.  I have actually felt little pokes here and there and the past few days I feel like the baby will kick at my bladder too.  It's a strange feeling because it's like all of a sudden I feel like I have to pee, but then it goes away almost as soon as I feel it.

I still have to remind myself I am pregnant once again!  It's hard to carry Olivia (already) and if we are at a store looking around and she wants me to carry her, its very hard on me.  I don't know how much longer I will be able to carry her.  Luckily Matt will carry her if he is with us, but with his shoulder still not at 100 % it is hard on him too.  Looks like we'll have to remember to bring her stroller when we go to the mall and things!  A lot of times she will walk, but its the times where she wants carried that makes it hard.

My next appointment is January 15th (Gavin's birthday) and that is my ultrasound day.  Hopefully the baby will cooperate and we will be able to find out the gender.  I am looking forward to moving our computer and guest bedroom downstairs and turning that room into a nursery.

We are also going to Disney World in January!  We leave January 18th and come home the 25th.  We are flying this time which will be nice.  However, I am nervous about Olivia's first time on a plane. I am just worried her ears will bother her.  Any tips anyone has will be appreciated!!!

Ryan was only about 18 months old the first time he flew. Give her gummy snacks to chew as you take off and again when you land and she should be fine. Ryan flew to California and was actually very good, for 4 and half hours!

i am excited to find out what you are having. I am so glad you heard the heartbeat, it is a beautiful sound isn't it!!

I am also excited for the big news! I remember the anticipation well. :)

I have never flown with a little one, so I have nothing to offer. I think Cheryl's advise sounds pretty good!

Jacob flew a lot when he was a baby - his first flight he was barely 2 months old - for my brother's wedding. :) 3 hour flight. He flew several times after that too. Of course when they are babies they suck their bottle and sleep. When Jacob was old enough, I let him chew gum. That seemed to help a lot. When he was younger, we gave him drink and snacks and things to keep him swallowing. Olivia may just sleep thru most of it, ya know. Head phones with a favorite book worked great too. She'll do fine! Have an awesome time!!
Merry Christmas!!
