Then There Is Wyatt

After changing names several times over we have decided on Wyatt. Several friends have suggested some good names, but for one reason or another we could not name him the suggested names. My friend Jamie suggested we name him Brooks or Sawyer...Matt has a friend named Brooks and even though Sawyer is so fitting since we have Huck, I would not do that to Sonya!! I suggested Finn, but Matt didn't like that and I suggested Buckwheat (Huck and Buck) but Matt shot that down too. Another friend suggested Wyatt or Doc (from the movie Tombstone) and there is a line "I'll be your Huckleberry" that Doc Holiday says several times throughout the movie. Since I had a dog named Doc growing up I didn't want to use the name again, so we settled on Wyatt. WHEW! I am just happy he is not nameless anymore! Fortunately he has not responded or grown accustom to any one particular name.

He's been a good dog and has had minimal accidents in the house. I have a baby gate that I use to block him from going into our hallway. All of our house is hardwood floors except the hallway and the bedrooms. Obviously if he's going to have an accident I'd rather it happen on the hardwood vs the carpet. At night we keep him in the laundry room with a laundry basket on top of him. I know he will outgrow the laundry basket, but it works for now. He crys for about 10 minutes then he is quiet for the majority of the night. He wakes up a couple times during the night and crys, but for only a few minutes and quiets down again. I made the mistake the first night to check on him and take him outside. He was so hyper at 4 am and he didn't want to go back into the laundry room. He cried and whined for a long time before finally settling back down. So now we just let him "cry it out" and let him out in the morning when we wake up.

I took him to the vet today and he weighs 8 lbs 8 oz. The doctor predicted he will get to about 40 lbs. He'll be a decent size which is what I want. He is in real good health with the exception of fleas and round worm. The vet gave him a tablet I had to give him which starts to kill the fleas within 30 minutes of him ingesting it. I also sprayed him and it seems to have worked. He hasn't itched in several hours. For the roundworm the doc gave me Sentinel to give him. Its for heartworm prevention and he said it will also get rid of the round worm. He got the round worm from his mother. Apparently children are at risk of getting roundworm because of playing outside and they can ingest dirt etc...so I am being extra cautious w/Olivia and she washes her hands after playing with him. Even though I know she hasn't ate any dirt the past few days!
He got two shots and will g back in 3 weeks to get more shots then he will go 3 weeks after that to get the rest of his shots. So, there you have it! Our newest family member...Wyatt!

I am glad the little guy finally has a name. He is just so cute. I am glad that Olivia and Huck like him. You definitely do NOT want to check on him at night, that causes huge problems! Violet still sleeps in her crate and probably always will, she loves having a place of her own. She gets on her own when she gets tired.
