15 Month Checkup

Yesterday was Olivia's 15 month check up. Boy oh boy! It was Bad with a capital B!! She screamed, hollered, yelled, and cried the entire time and this was just trying to get her weight! I sat her down on the scale and she kept scooting off of it trying to grab me! The nurse was inbetween us and she grabbed ahold of the nurse and reached out for me. I couldn't help but laugh! Finally the nurse suggested I hold her on the big scale, get our weight together then on my own and subtract it to get her weight. So, after all that she now weighs 19 lbs 4 oz. Then we went back into the exam room and got her length and it was pretty much the same thing,I held her down with her legs and the nurse got her length....she is 29 inches long!

I gave her a bottle and she calmed down until her doctor walked in the room! I got my questions out of the way before he examined her because the screaming, hollering, yelling, crying and kicking started. Her doctor said it is ok to move her carseat to forward facing. Even though she is not 20 lbs he said its more skeletal development that is important. He said 1/2 pound to a pound won't make any difference, but if she were a preemie he would it extend the rear facing. Since she wasn't premature he said its ok. I was relieved to hear she can go forward facing because she is starting to get too long for rear facing.

Her doctor also said the 15 month check up is the worst, mostly because she can't verbalize what she is trying to say. He said generally from 12-18 months girls start to throw tantrums (which she does!) and boys usually start around 18 months to 2 years. He said her growth is great and he's not concerned about her weight since she keeps gaining.

She got 3 shots, all in her arms. It was pitiful. After her doctor left the room I got her calmed down again. They have Sesame Street wallpaper and she was pointing to Big Bird and the other characters. She was in a good mood again and then walks in the nurse with her shots. I felt so bad because when she saw the nurse she waved at her and said hi in the sweetest voice. She didn't know what that mean old nurse was about to do to her!!!

I'm sure the entire office heard her screaming and crying and I know she's not the first and won't be the last!!!!

Maybe she remembered her shots from last time. I act like that when I have to get shots too.

In her little arm? Ryan always got his in his legs because they were meater...and suppose to hurt less.

Poor thing, at least she doesn't have to go back for a while.
