Happy Birthday Olivia Grace!!

WOW! What a year! Last year at this time Olivia was only 2 hours old! I left on in my last post that we thought Olivia was going to make her debut around midnight. Yeah right! Midnight came and went and still no baby. I tryed to sleep the best I could along with my parents, mother in law, sister and Matt. Ironically I was the only one "comfortable"! I had gotten my epidural around 11 pm and felt REALLY good. Inbetween the nurse, my mom and mother in law is was hard to get any solid sleep. Olivia's heart rate dropped so I had to wear an oxygen mask and it brought it back up, that was scary.

FINALLY! Around 5:45 am, my doctor came to check on me since he hadn't received a call from any of the nurses. I was 10 cm dialated and ready to push! I started pushing around 6 am and my contractions never got closer than 5 minutes apart. So, inbetween contractions we talked about the snow (it was snowing while I pushed) or we watched t.v. without any sound! I'll always remember the excitement I felt when my nurse paged my doctor and said "Dr. Draznik, please come to room 9069 for delivery" WOW! My baby was going to be born!!! When my doctor came into the room I pushed two more times and at 7:03 a.m. Olivia was born!

Words cannot describe how happy and excited I was. I watched in the mirror above the bed and when I saw her little head and when my doctor pulled her out I was overwhelmed with happiness. This is what its all about! Giving birth is the greatest thing I will EVER do. Nothing can beat it.

Now its her birthday. I cannot believe how fast 1 year goes. Unfortunately she is really sick on her birthday. She has the bug Gavin, Avery, Amy, and Gary had. It started Friday night around 8 pm. She threw up 3 times and started dry heaving. Yesterday when she woke up she seemed to be feeling better all day. She was playing with my dad and running around then all of a sudden at 3 pm (an hour before her party was starting) she threw up. As bad as she felt she gave it a good fight. All she wanted me to do was hold her. She fell asleep for a little while during her party, but woke up in time to open presents. She seemed to feel better when she woke up from her mini nap and nibbled on pizza. While we opened presents she was wanting to see everything and all the kids were around her and she was having a good time. She didn't eat any of her little cake we bought. She stuck her finger in it once and started crying. So, we are saving it for hopefully in a day or two where she will feel better. When we started singing Happy Birthday to her, I couldn't sing! I started to get choked up!

After that she just wanted to sleep and she threw up a few more times. All I am giving her is water and she can't hold it down. She goes to the doctor tomorrow for her 1 year check up, so I don't think she will be getting any shots. She woke up at 8:30 this morning and is sleeping again. She's thrown up once today. I just hate that she feels so bad on her 1st birthday.

Happy Birthday Baby Girl! I LOVE YOU!

I was excited to come and see how her party went. I am glad she was able to enjoy some of it.

First birthdays really are so special. It gives us a major wake up call that our kids really do grow up. It made me, both times, re-evaluate my parenting priorities and all that. I felt like the first birthday gave me a renewed parental spirit or something.

Who cares when she eats the cake as long as she does and you get those great pics!!

Oh poor baby girl!!! I'm sorry she was sick for her party!!! Oh well, it will make a story to write in her baby book about how she was sick on her first birthday. I agree with Sonya, give her the cake when she's feeling better and get those good pictures!
