So, I left off saying I was planning on being induced the following week, I was going about my business the week before (because I took that week off work as vacation) thinking I had another week of freedom...
Thursday, February 15, 2007 Matt and I went to The Roadhouse for dinner. I had a huge meal and was feeling good. After dinner Matt played basketball which he does every Thursday, I went home and got ready for bed. Matt got home around midnight I said hello to him and feel back asleep. About an hour later I woke up feeling a strange pain I have not felt before. It started in my back and radiated around to my belly, almost like menstrual cramps. At first I thought maybe it was gas since I had a big dinner. Well, about 18 minutes later it was the same feeling. So I thought to myself "maybe this is it" I got my cell phone to check the time and to see how long the pain was lasting. Matt had fallen asleep by this time and I guess I woke hime up because he asked what I was doing! I said "I think I'm in labor" he asked if there was anything we needed to do at that time and I said no, that it would probably be awhile before we have to do anything. He said "OK, good, I'm going back to sleep!" Needless to say I didn't sleep at all, I was too busy timing my contractions! I was so excited to call my sister and my mom, because they had been waiting on this phone call for weeks now! Around 6 am my contractions were about 12-15 minutes apart, I called my sister and she was sooooo excited! I then called my mom who didn't answer, but she called me back right away and I told her what was going on! If it were up to them two they would have had me go to the hospital right then! I called my mother in law around 8:30 am, since she has a 3 hour drive I wanted her to have plenty of time to get to our house.
I was supposed to call Dr. Draznik regardless that morning to set up my induction for the following week, so I called his office around 10 am and spoke to Kate. She talked to him and he said to go to the hospital whenever I felt it was necessary. I was in labor and it was progressing. So, my contractions were pretty stubborn coming about every 10 minutes lasting about 30 seconds each time. Matt, his mom and myself hung out at home all day while my sister and mom were calling me about every 10 minutes wondering how I was doing and telling me to go to the hospital! I knew it was not time yet, so I refused to listen to them!!! Finally around 4:30 pm I gave in, my contractions were about 5-7 minutes apart so I made sure I had everything in my bag and we headed for The Christ Hospital around 5 pm. By time we parked and got up to labor and delivery it was about 5:30 pm, I got checked in and was taken to triage. The nurse Anne, checked me and I was only 2 cm dialated, but 90 percent effaced meaning my cervix was almost completely thinned out. She told me I needed to walk the halls to try and get my labor to progress more otherwise I would be sent home. Something I did not want to do!!! My family was waiting in the waiting area and I told them what was going on. My sister then said to me "We need to walk" so we were walking for about 30 minutes and we ran into Anne. She had spoke to Dr. Draznik and he said for me to stay at the hospital and he would break my water. WHEW! I was so relieved, like I mentioned before, he's the greatest doctor!!! He broke my water around 7:30 pm, which was really weird and gross!! But it really got my contractions coming a lot stronger, to the point where my toes would curl and anyone talking would really irritate me and I wanted to throw something at the wall!!! My nurse Susan was not very sympathetic either! She would not let me have an epidural, I think she was angry at the world!
Her shift ended at 11:30 pm and my new nurse Pam was great! She got my epidural the second I said I wanted it! It was the best feeling ever, I could finally relax and try to sleep 'cause Lord knows I still had 7 hours to go!
Around 2 am my family was so tired and ready to get this show on the road, that my sister slept in the chair in my room and my dad and Matt went back to our house to check on our dog and my mom and mother in law just roamed aroun all night!! Matt got back to the hospital around 4 am, I was 8 cm dialated at that time, he found a place to sleep and so did my dad!
Dr. Draznik came to check on me around 5:30 am, he said noone had called him so he got up and got ready to see what was going on with me (did I mention he's the greatest doctor ever?) he checked me and I was ready to push!!! The nurses got the room ready and my sister went to get Matt, by time everyone got out of the room and it was just Matt, me and the nurse it was going on 6 am. It was snowing and I started to push, the nurse told me it would probably take a few times before I got the hang of pushing, but my first try she said I knew exactly what to do and I wouldn't have any problems! My contractions never got closer than 5 minutes so it took a little longer than it should have. In between contractions we would talk about the weather and whatever else while Matt read Money Market magazine!! FINALLY!! At 7:03 am Olivia was born!
It was the most amazing experience! I did not need an episiotomy, only 2 stitches! No hemmorhoids either!

Sounds like a pretty good labor experience.....I was very luck with both of my labors, they were both a piece of cake.
As far as the pregnancies go, my first pregnancy was sooo easy and fun and my second pregnancy was a nightmare!!
Wow that brings back memories. It sounds GREAT!! I am so glad it all went well for you.
