Playroom Ideas

I got a good idea on how I want to decorate our playroom. Thanks to Pottery Barn Kids, I have decided to decorate our playroom with all things Dr. Seuss. They sell framed pictures of different books for $89 a piece, which is ridiculous! I told Matt it will be so much cheaper to buy a few new books, cut out some pages, matte and frame them and it will be a fraction of the cost! There is a really neat Cat In The Hat wall mural that I really want, but PBK sells its for $179! That is outrageous...I love Pottery Barn and PBK, but come on! So, I wanted to see what ideas you guys have. What things can I put in the playroom to make it a fun place to be. Somewhere our kids can go and read, play games, and have fun. I really want it to be colorful (the walls are already painted a bright pale blue/green color. Even though PBK has a few things available to buy, I really don't want to spend a fortune on it either. I know all my blog friends are creative and I would love your insight!

if you want to have a wall mural you could do it yourself, don't laugh it is easy. You can borrow, rent or buy and overhead projector, it put the pic on the wall and you just trace it and paint it. also Kohl's has cat and the hat characters as their $5 kids stuff animals. the framing of the book pages sound wonderful, you could also frame the covers if you wanted. another thing you could do it get Dr. Seuess fabric and cover bean bag chairs or large floor pillows. that is just off the top of my head, I will think about it and post more later.

cheryl's right about the overhead/mural - it really is easy. you can also scan in the artwork, and take it to an office supply store to blow up and make poster size prints. if you have any photo editing software, you could blend the pictures together to make a mural that way, too.

for furniture, you could paint wooden chairs and tables in really bright, fun designs, or even use modgepodge to decoupage on dr. seuss pics (I've done this with random pics on a stool. it takes awhile, but turns out pretty cool!)

another idea i always wanted to try, but never did, was to make a border on the walls with tanis's handprints. you could paint in a line for the top and bottom, and have olivia dip her hands in different colors of paint, and randomly do prints inside the lines to create a border.

have fun, and post pics!

I read this post the other day and was thinking about things you could do.
The first 2 ladies have such awesome ideas!
If you find fabric to make pillows you could make curtains too.
I can't wait to see what you come up with. What a cute idea for a play room! Good luck!
